Question:  What are the financial counseling and education requirements under the bankruptcy law?
Answer:  Financial counseling and education is mandated by the Bankruptcy Code. Prior to filing for bankruptcy, individuals are required to receive a briefing from an approved non-profit budget and credit counseling agency. Prior to completing the bankruptcy process and receiving a discharge, individuals are required to complete a course on personal financial management.

Question:  Why do I have to complete this course to receive my bankruptcy discharge?
Answer:  The Bankruptcy Act enacted by Congress requires individuals filing Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy to complete an instructional course in personal financial management AFTER filing bankruptcy and prior to receiving their bankruptcy discharge. Our Bankruptcy Debtor Education Course meets this requirement.

Question:  When do I take this course?
Answer:  You should take this course AFTER you file bankruptcy. The law requires that you take this course within 45 days after your 341 Meeting.

Question:  How do I pass the course?
Answer:  Simply by completing the course! As long as you complete the entire course, you will receive the Certificate of Completion required by the law.

Question:  How much does the course cost?
Answer:  The cost for the course is $14.95 per household, if you filed jointly with your spouse you pay $14.95 total. We do not charge a per person fee.

Question:  How will I pay for the course?
Answer:  You or your attorney may pay online by debit card, credit card, e-check.

Question:  Can my attorney pay for the course?
Answer:  Yes. Your attorney may pay by debit or credit card.

Question:  How long is the course?
Answer:  The bankruptcy laws require the course to be a minimum of two hours. Feel free to take as long as you need. However, you must spend a minimum of two hours in order to receive your certificate of completion.

Question:  Where can I take the course?
Answer:  You may take the course from any location with internet access such as your home, your office, your attorney’s office, a public library or an internet cafe. The course is available to you at any time, 24 hours a day.

Question:  Once I’ve started the course, can I stop and start the course again at a later time?
Answer:  Yes. You can start, stop and save your course whenever you like and log in and out as many times as you need. You can go at your own pace.
